History of Block Panchayat

Community Development Blocks were established in India on 2 October 1952, the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, as part of the First Five-Year Plan. These blocks were constituted with the primary objective of planning and implementing rural development programmes.

In line with this initiative, the Kannur Block was established on 2 October 1963, coinciding with Gandhi Jayanti, to facilitate and coordinate rural development activities in the region.
